“Tourism Will Be Better Than Last Season”

Marmaris Chamber of Commerce President Mutlu Ayhan said that Marmaris is ready for the 2022 tourism season.

Marmaris Chamber of Commerce President Mutlu Ayhan said that Marmaris is ready for the 2022 tourism season.

He stated that they continue to work to minimize the effects of the war between Russia and Ukraine on tourism.

Evaluating the last two years in tourism, Marmaris Chamber of Commerce President Mutlu Ayhan said, “There was a shrinkage of up to 80 percent in tourism in Marmaris, first due to the pandemic and then to the fire disaster we experienced last year. Due to the war that broke out between our two important markets, Russia and Ukraine, it can be said that approximately 560 thousand seats planned for our region were canceled. Things seem to be a little better in the British market. One of the highest seat increases in our history, around 1 million 300 thousand seats have been reserved this year. There was a slowdown in the last months regarding this. Reservations also started to rise again by entering a recovery process in the last few days. God willing, our high season will have started as of June and we hope that we will catch serious numbers in the UK market, saying that they are hopeful for the new season. lirt

“We gave priority to digital promotions with huge investments”

Saying that they have made many moves to promote Marmaris tourism abroad, Ayhan said, “Our chamber has been participating in both domestic and international fairs for years, in terms of diversifying tourism in Marmaris and diversifying the markets. Of course, this year in particular, we as Marmaris Chamber of Commerce, the municipality, the South Aegean In cooperation with the Touristic Hoteliers Association and our chamber, we are starting a big-budget advertising campaign to sell the reserved seats in England and to increase the demand in the coming years, with the support of our Muğla Governor’s Office. “The advertisement on digital platforms will take place in cooperation with the airline and the tour operator. We will reach approximately 10 million British citizens in this way, and our efforts to increase the demand in Marmaris will continue.” He stated that the promotional activities will continue.

“Our efforts for VAT reductions yielded positive results”

Marmaris Chamber of Commerce President Ayhan stated that Marmaris has completed the preparations for the new season and said, “All of our members, especially accommodation facilities and food and beverage facilities, are ready for the season. The issue that closely concerns our accommodation and catering facilities is the reduction of VAT for a while. “These were also met. Currently, VAT will continue to be applied as 1 percent on basic food products in catering and accommodation facilities. This is also a positive development,” he said.

“Music broadcast hours should also be normalized”

Ayhan also stated that after the pandemic period entered the normalization process, there should be a stretch in the practice of ending music broadcasting at 00.00 at night, “As you know, the obligation to use masks in the open air has now been removed. HES code control has been removed, class closure practices in schools again. Now we want the ban on music, which is in effect after 12 pm, to be lifted as soon as possible. Because we know that British tourists are fond of entertainment, especially during their holidays. We don’t want them to be disappointed by closing the bars at 12 o’clock. We have made a request to the competent authorities and our union to lift this ban, and we are waiting for a positive response.”

Mutlu Ayhan stated that the rumors that there will be a decrease in the number of tourists after the Russia-Ukraine war are unfounded, that they represent the district by participating in fairs only on behalf of Marmaris in Scandinavian countries and that they will see the positive results of these fair visits this season, adding that countries such as Denmark, Switzerland and Finland will come to Turkey for a holiday. Said they were coming. Expressing that they are in warm contact with Serbia and Romania, Ayhan added that there will be activity again with last-minute reservations in the domestic market during the holidays.
